While building confidence in the water, swimmers will work on getting their arms out of the water, rotary breathing and proper kicking form. Focus will be on helping swimmers coordinate all three to be able to swim smoothly, with practice emphasizing freestyle and backstroke technique. The goal is to swim 2 laps of freestyle without stopping, and 2 laps of backstroke without stopping, using learned techniques. Racing starts will be introduced. Swim Lesson Need to Know: Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your child’s lesson so they benefit from the entire lesson and do not have to join once the lesson is underway. Children should arrive for lessons in their swim suit. Children with long hair should have their hair tied up in a ponytail. Please have goggles for your child if they want to wear them. The pool will not supply goggles. Once arriving on the pool deck, we ask that all parents wait with their child until called by the instructor. All parents are then asked to remain on the benches away from the poolside. We encourage you to watch the lesson but advise that you refrain from approaching the lesson or calling out to your child, which will distract the swimmers. Please remain in your viewing spot throughout the entire lesson. Instructors reserve the right to determine your child’s skill level and adjust instruction as necessary. All Region 15 weather and cancellations will be followed. Please check for lesson notifications or alerts on the MyRec Home page . Program registration is for the totality of the program. In order to serve you better, Southbury Parks and Recreation's programs are subject to change. All Parks and Recreation programs are covered by the Universal Disclaimer.

Grow Together Play Club Grades: 4-8 - Play Club Mailing List At the Grow Together Play Club, unstructured time proves to be a powerful engine for development. When kids play freely, they're building essential life skills. Mixed-age environments naturally encourage social growth, teaching kids cooperation, empathy, and leadership as older children mentor younger ones. Self-directed activities sharpen problem-solving and critical thinking while boosting creativity and imagination. Crucially, it develops the independence to make decisions and learn emotional regulation in a low-stress setting. Ultimately, "just playing" is how your children learn to be resilient, confident, and successful friends. Please sign up for the mailing list for direct information about all upcoming programs. As information becomes available, register for activities you are interested in joining. Different weeks will have different group sizes, so please register as soon as you can - registration is limited!Program location may vary, information will be updated as it becomes available. Most programs will be Friday nights between 5:00pm and 8:00pm.Upcoming Dates: March: 20th Games Galore! 5:30pm - 7:15pm Join your peers for fun and friendly competition at Play Club: Games Galore! NEW DATE Thursday, April: 2nd Inside Out(doors)! 5:00pm - 7:15pm Get ready to bring the backyard vibe inside as we turn our indoor space into a mini lawn-game arena. Grow Together Play Club Grades: 4-8 - Play Club April 10 At the Grow Together Play Club, unstructured time proves to be a powerful engine for development. Each participant is asked to bring at least one game (board game, card game, etc.) to share with the group. Children should be familiar enough with their game to teach others how to play. Participants are also responsible for keeping track of all game pieces and helping with cleanup after the games. Come ready to play, learn, and make new friends! NEW DATE Thursday, April: 2nd Inside Out(doors)! 5:00pm - 7:15pm Get ready to bring the backyard vibe inside as we turn our indoor space into a mini lawn-game arena. Think cornhole, giant Jenga, ring toss, and other outdoor favorites—played safely inside. Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn game from home that is indoor-friendly (lightweight, soft-toss, or tabletop versions welcome). The game stations will be the perfect way to unwind, move, laugh, and enjoy classic games with friends—no sunshine required! In order to serve you better, Southbury Parks and Recreation's programs are subject to change.
