Parent's Night Out: Grades K-9 - Parent's Night Out Our Parent's Night Out program is designed as a fun, structured evening where kids can socialize, play games together, and enjoy a safe Friday night activity.Parks and Recreation has teamed up with Affinity Esports for this Friday night out! Parents and guardians can enjoy an evening to themselves while kids enjoy a fun, supervised night of gaming, activities, pizza, and drinks. Participants will rotate through a mix of popular age-appropriate games and activities, which may include Minecraft, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rocket League, Fortnite, Fall Guys, and other group-friendly titles. The focus is on social play, teamwork, friendly competition, and creating a welcoming experience for all skill levels. Parent’s Night Out takes place in the Southbury Parks and Recreation Building 561 Main St South. Game Creation and Coding Camp: Ages 7-13 - Game Creation and Coding Camp
Join Affinity ESports for a week of Game Creation and Coding. This camp introduces kids ages 7-13 to the world of programming through game design, hands-on challenges, and creative projects. Using beginner tools like Scratch, students learn core concepts such as sequences, loops, conditionals, variables, and simple data, while building their own interactive games. Along the way they practice problem solving, collaboration, and broad computer skills, with chances to showcase their work to family at the end of the session.All participants should bring a labeled refillable water bottle and peanut-free lunch and snacks. Taught by award-winning black belts, participants learn sparing, age-appropriate self-defense, safety awareness, patterns and much more through Taekwon-do, a Korean martial art. Taekwon-do helps kids learn respect for themselves and for others, heightens concentration and increases self-restraint. Adults gain improved health, better balance, flexibility and personal protection. Uniforms are not required, although recommended. Centergy: Ages 18+ - Centergy with Meghan Grow longer and stronger with Centergy, an invigorating 60 minute mind-body workout. It incorporates yoga and Pilates fundamentals with athletic training and a focus on mobility and flexibility. Emotive music drives the experience as your breathe and sweat through this choreographed workout. Centergy is a great stand-alone workout for stretching and working on balance and strength, or exercisers might treat it as recovery from more physically demanding sports, such as running. All you need to bring is a Yoga mat and water.
