FALL:
Welcome to Pomperaug Youth Field Hockey Fall Program & Clinic!
We’re excited to have your child join us for a fun and engaging Fall field hockey season! Our program is designed to enhance skills, foster teamwork, and ignite a passion for the game. This program is open to boys and girls from grades K-7th.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. Skill Development:
We focus on fundamental skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, and game strategies. Each practice is designed to cater to different skill levels, ensuring personalized instruction and growth for every player.
2. Teamwork and Sportsmanship:
Field hockey is all about teamwork. We emphasize communication, cooperation, and respect, helping players understand the importance of being a supportive team member both on and off the field.
3. Fun and Fitness:
Our practices are engaging and enjoyable, incorporating games and activities that keep players motivated. Fitness is a natural part of the program, helping players build strength, agility, and endurance in a fun environment.
4. Experienced Coaches:
Our dedicated coaching staff brings a wealth of knowledge and a positive attitude to each practice. Darren Smallhorn (Former US National Team Athlete, former D1 collegiate coach, and Owner of DELTA Field Hockey), and DELTA Field Hockey's staff are partnering with the Pomperaug High School Field Hockey team to provide these opportunities for youth players. Everyone is committed to creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere where players of all abilities and experiences can thrive and have fun.
5. Season Structure:
The season will consist of 6 weekly practices at Settlers Park with the chance to showcase their skills in a friendly, game-like setting during a playday/gameday or ‘Community Day’ to be held at Pomperaug High School. This playday is included in the program fee.
6. Optional Playdays:
We will be offering 2-3 more playdays in nearby towns for players who want additional game-like experiences. Details, additional fees, and the separate registration link for each extra playday is available on the DELTA website: www.deltafieldhockey.com
7. Age-Appropriate Training:
Our program is structured to suit various age groups and skill levels, providing appropriate challenges and learning opportunities for each player.
8. Family Involvement:
We value family support and involvement. If you’re interested in coaching or game-day organization, please reach out. We will keep you updated on your child’s progress and upcoming events to ensure you’re always in the loop. Once registered, please download the GameChanger App which we will be using for updates and regular communications.
9. Equipment
Each day ALL participants will need to bring their own equipment including:
Mouthguard,
Field hockey stick
Shinguards
Turf shoes/sneakers/ Cleats for grass
Water-bottles (Snacks for the young ones)
Practice Pinnie

Please note, we recommend purchasing equipment from local store Northeast Sporting Goods (www.northeastsportinggoods.net) instead of online retailers like Amazon or DICK's Sporting Goods. Sticks and other gear will be available for purchase at the camp. If you're new to field hockey not sure what to purchase, don't worry—we will have sticks available to borrow for the first day and longer if necessary.
