Counselor-In-Training (CIT) is a program for students in Grades 8-12 who enjoy spending time with children and want to help the community while learning leadership skills. CITs are expected at camp between the hours of 8:30am-3:30pm daily for their registered week(s). Participants will partake in all camp activities, have the opportunity to lead craft/activity stations, and engage in weekly leadership training and meetings with the Camp Leadership Staff.
The CIT Application Process:
1. Review the CIT Guidebook with a parent/guardian.
2. Fill out the application form.
3. Submit a reference letter from a coach, teacher, or principal.
4. Application and reference letter must be received by Meghan Lennon, Parks and Recreation Director, by Monday, March 9, 2026, in one of the following ways:
-Via e-mail in an attachment to: mlennon@southbury-ct.gov.
-Mailed to Parks and Recreation Office.
-Hand deliver the application packet to the Parks and Recreation Office.
5. Once the application is received, candidates will be contacted for an interview.
6. BEFORE your interview, register for the waiting list below for each week you are interested in. The registration says "This Activity Full," but once you log in there will be an option to “add to wait list”. A member of the office will contact you to complete payment should you be accepted into the program. NOTE: joining the wait list is not a guarantee you will be selected for that particular week, even if you are accepted into the program. This wait list will organize CIT interest to help determine which five candidates will be assigned to each week.
7. Successful candidates will receive an offer letter.
8. Successful candidates must then confirm the training dates and meetings listed in the offer letter.
9. Office staff will reach out to complete payment and confirm weeks of attendance.
Payment needs to be completed by Monday, April 20, 2026.
Any application packets submitted after March 9, 2026, will not be accepted.
