Southbury Parks and Recreation (SPR) in partnership with the Arts and Culture Subcommittee of the Southbury Economic Development Commission (ACSSEDC) and Middlebury and Southbury Equity and Inclusion Council (MSEIC) is having its second annual collaborated special event: Art in the Park! Overview of this Free Event Join us for a day of free arts & crafts projects and recreational activities. Learn a new technique while you create your own art or try your hand at a free craft project. Participate in a free raffle drawing for a fun prize.  Food trucks will be on-site for you to purchase a quick lunch or snack featuring Lucky Dog Food Truck and Polar Sweets LLC. Location/DetailsThis event is free to attend and will be held on Saturday, May 11. 10am-11am will feature a sensory friendly hour. 11am-2pm for general admission. Art in the Park will be held at Ballantine Park located at 611 Old Field Road. In the event of rain or bad weather, this event will be held indoors at the Southbury Parks and Recreation Building at 561 Main Street South. (To confirm the rain location, visit the MyRec website and look for the red “ALERT” banner at the top of the page).  Activity & Craft DetailsThe Middlebury and Southbury Equity and Inclusion Council (MSEIC) will have an information booth, creating cards to give to a loved one, D-I-Y Pinwheels, and color your own bird glider! The Arts and Culture Subcommittee of the Southbury Economic Development Commission (ACSSEDC) will offer fun art projects and activities suitable for all ages featuring painting on easels with canvasses, tabletop painting, making a tissue paper flower bouquet, and more!   Southbury Parks and Recreation (SPR) will offer recreation activities and crafts featured from our in-house programs which include the “All-Stars” Sports Program (Mini Stars, Shooting Stars, and Kicking Stars), Summer Camp activities and activities from our new Parks & Rec Clubhouse (formally D.I.Y. Clubhouse). Some activity stations* will vary for the appropriate age/grade level and features: Sports & Games     -Preschool & Toddler Soccer Games and Drills (Recommended ages 3-5) | Times: 10:15am - 10:30am and 11:15am - 11:45am.     -Camp Sports Activities: Pickleball Games 10:35 - 10:55am and 11:50 - 1:00pm, basketball activities 12:15 - 12:45pm, and kickball or capture the flag 1:15 - 2:00pm. NOTE: sports/field game activities are predicted to change, based on the interest of the participants.Crafts & Activities      -Make your own slime! (Recommended ages are 5 & up, with those below the age of 5 able to participate with parent/guardian support). Make your own slime on site, 1 slime per person to go home, while supplies last.       -Tie-Dye Station! White shirts will be available in limited quantities.     -Raffle Drawings (raffle drawing will take place at 1:00pm, see the Raffle Prize Details section for more information)*Activity stations are subject to change.  The Community Task Force will have a community flower-making station, then projects will be hung up in the Southbury Parks and Recreation Building for the month of May.Activity E-mailing List"Register" below on our mailing list. Completing this task helps our department and partners estimate the interest of the event with a predicted number of patrons attending so that we can have adequate supplies on hand.If you aren't sure you can make it but have interest, register anyway! Our department will only reach out via e-mail and/or phone number for a courtesy reminder e-mail of the event, an activity list with a time frame for specific activities, a photo gallery link of photos taken from the event, and/or completing a feedback survey! Raffle Prize Details Raffle prizes (all free to enter, one entry per person per item grouping): -Free attendance for one of our upcoming program classes in the Parks & Recreation Clubhouse or paint class.-Southbury Parks & Recreation Swag Bag, featuring a variety of items. All raffle drawings will take place approximately around 1 pm.
