Rec Basketball 2022
Southbury Parks & Recreation is offering recreational basketball focusing on fun, teamwork, and the development of basketball skills.

Registration groups below are based on the participant's 2023-2024 grade level enrollment. By participating in our program, you consent to verification of enrollment with Region 15 schools. 

High School Basketball (Grades 9-12) 
High School Basketball will start in early January of 2024. High School Basketball will NOT have weekly practices and only consist of games on the weekends. High School Basketball may be subject to an evaluation before players are placed on teams- review the evaluation section for more details, and dates/times. 
Games may be either Saturday or Sunday- reference the "games/schedule" section below for more details.

High School Recreation League Registration Information:
-The registration end date will be on Wednesday, January 3.
-Early Bird ends on Monday, November 27 with a discount of $25 (applied at check out). 
-Late rates will be applied at check out starting on Thursday, December 21 - Wednesday, January 3 for an additional $50.

Participants who make the Pomperaug High School (PHS) Team, cannot participate in recreational basketball. If you registered for Recreation Basketball and have made the PHS team, please contact our office for a refund.

Youth Recreation Basketball (Grades 3-8)
Youth Recreational Basketball (grades 3-8) will start practices in late November/early December, dates TBD and games will start the first weekend of December. Evaluations will take place in November. Grades 3 & 4 do not participate in the playoffs that take place in March, their season concludes at the end of February.

Keep in mind that families will not know their child's team, game time, and practice time until about 1-2 weeks before the season starts, due to the quick turnaround time between evaluations, coaches forming a team, and the start date of the season on top of the available time frame for gym space allotted. Be in the know: be a coach!

9.1.23- Standings/schedules/scores on the link above will not be accurate until after evaluations and teams are formed. 

The time clock will run during general basketball gameplay. The only exception the clock will be stopped by an operator is for a time out/injury. In divisions grades 5-12, the clock will stop during whistles for the last 2 minutes of every half time. Check our quick rules chart below for more information! 

Evaluations:
Evaluations are predicted to run in November for grades 3-8 and in January for grades 9-12.

Team Assignments:
Each participant will be contacted by their coach or league director for their team assignment, NOT by Southbury Parks & Recreation. Team assignments include a coach introduction, your child's team color/name, your child's practice time slot and location, a review of expectations, and the game schedule.
Team assignments are predicted to be released after Thanksgiving and before the first weekend of games. 

Practices:
The Youth Recreation Leagues (grades 3-8) will have one practice per week that may be held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, between the hours of 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Practice starting times will be 5:00 PM, 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, or 8:00 PM. Each practice will be one hour in length. This includes arrival time and departure time for your time slot. 
The schedule will be based on the coach's availability and is predicted to be sent to participants after evaluations/teams are formed (around late November).
Reminder: High School Recreation Leagues (grades 9-12) will not practice weekly. 

Games:
The Youth Recreation Leagues (grades 3-8) will play one game per week which will be held on Saturdays, beginning on Dec. 2 and ending on Feb. 24 (excluding holidays consisting of 12/23-12/31, and 2/17-2/18). Times will vary and exclude the playoff schedules.
The High School Recreation Leagues (grades 9-12) will play one game per week either on Saturday or Sunday, starting in January of 2024. Times will vary.  

Playoffs:
Grades 3 and 4 will not participate in the playoffs. Grades 5-12 will participate in the playoffs.
The playoffs will take place Saturdays AND Sundays in March with team advancement for each day.

Inclement Weather:
All practices and games will be held, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, Southbury Parks & Recreation will send out an email blast during their regular business hours (M-TH 8:00 AM-4:00 PM and F 8:00 AM-1:00 PM).
